St Augustine and West Palm Beach 2002

Lesley and I took an overnight trip to St Augustine (America's Oldest City) in North East Florida, Flying from Venice to Winter Haven, St Augustine and returning to Venice via West Palm Beach after following the East Coast of Florida passing Daytona Beach and Cape Canaveral.

We were met in West Palm Beach by Thierry Pouille with whom we had lunch. Thierry and I have "known" each other in an email sense for a couple of years but until now never had the opportunity to meet up. Another aviator Thierry's company organises flying trips around the Bahamas, check out Air Journey.

The return flight from West Palm Beach to Venice took us over central Florida just to the south of Orlando, it's flat and wet, with large lakes and swamps.

Lightner Museum, also built as a hotel and names the "Alcazar" by Mr Flagler, it was apparently the first to boast an indoor pool.

The weather and the restricted airspace, imposed since 9/11, kept us from getting any close ups of the launch facilities at Cape Canaveral.

Dinner at the Summer House

The only decent restaurant which we found in America, with table cloths, proper cutlery and food prepared in the European manner. This was our final evening in Florida.
